The Laboratory of Research on Society of the Research Sector of Kharkiv national university of economics is a university research institution whose aim is to facilitate raising the quality of training specialists and upgrading qualification of KhNUE teachers, providing researchers with scientific, research and experimental facilities, improving the level of teaching and learning taken together. It was founded in 2003.

The main directions of research:

• Scientific problems of measuring the level and quality of the populations life;
• Methodological principles of choosing a strategy of social and economic development of the country and its regions;
• System restructuring of enterprises under crisis conditions.

For some latest years the research carried out by the laboratory ordered by the Kharkiv oblast’ state administration resulted in the following projects:

• Strategy of Social and Economic Development of Kharkiv oblast’ for the period up to 2011;
• Program of Raising the Live of the Kharkiv oblast’s Population for the period up to 2015;
• Program of Scientific, Technological and Innovative Development of Kharkiv oblast’ for the period up to 2011;
• Grounding Major Strategic Directions of Export Potential Development of Kharkov oblast’ for 2006-2007;
• Developing Agreement on Cooperation between Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers and the Kharkiv oblast’ state administration for the period between 2007 and 2011.
